Holiday Inn Regent’s Park: A Proper London Stay That Overdelivers

By Danni Levy

When you think of the Holiday Inn, what springs to mind?

Convenient. Family-friendly. Maybe somewhere you book because the location works and the price is fair. Holiday Inn has always been reliable like that; solid, comfortable, and easy.

But the Regent’s Park address quietly punches above its weight.

Tucked away on a calm street just off Great Portland Street in Fitzrovia, this four-star hotel lands you right in one of the best pockets of central London. Two Tube stations, Great Portland Street Underground Station and Regent's Park Underground Station, are both only a short stroll away, and the leafy calm of Regent's Park is just around the corner.

Translation: wherever you’re heading in London, getting there is easy.

What I wasn’t expecting, though, was how much I’d actually enjoy being inside the hotel itself.

The lobby has a cool, confident London feel to it. Bold colours, contemporary design, playful touches and a good few nods to classic British culture adorn the entrance hall. There’s a proper sense of place here. The famous red phone box makes an appearance in the décor and there are visual reminders throughout that you’re right in the heart of the capital.

It feels modern, lively and welcoming rather than corporate or sterile.

And then there’s the workspace.

Hotels often promise “business facilities”, which usually means a lonely desk somewhere near reception. Not here. At the Holiday Inn Regent’s Park there’s an entire dedicated room off the lobby set up as a proper working area. Big tables, plenty of space, natural light, and enough room to spread out with a laptop, notes and a coffee without feeling like you’re perched in a corridor.

If you’re travelling for work, it’s genuinely brilliant. I could happily have used that room as my office for the week.

The room itself delivers too. I appreciate the finer things in life. If you know, you know.

Little touches make all the difference. When I walked into the room and saw the bathroom stocked with Dove products, a proper tea and coffee station, and a minibar that wasn’t embarrassingly empty, I knew this stay was going to be comfortable.

The room itself has a clean, modern feel, exactly what you want after a long day out in London. Everything is well thought out. There’s a decent desk if you need to work, good lighting, and the all-important pillow choice. A proper pillow menu. Once you’ve experienced that luxury, it’s very hard to go back.

The bed is exactly what you hope for after a long day exploring the city: big, comfortable and inviting. Add a soft dressing gown hanging in the wardrobe and a huge smart TV, and suddenly the idea of staying in for the evening becomes very appealing.

Then there’s breakfast.

The brekkie bar downstairs is exactly the kind of setup that keeps you coming back for seconds. Fresh pastries, hot options served with a genuine smile, fruit, good coffee, the works. The hotel’s restaurant handles breakfast and the usual classics, and it does the job nicely when you want a relaxed start to the day without hunting for a café.

Although, to be fair, the surrounding streets make that decision slightly difficult.

Step outside and you’re surrounded by cafés, bakeries, restaurants and pubs in every direction. Fitzrovia has quietly become one of London’s best food neighbourhoods, and the choices within a few minutes’ walk are ridiculous. Coffee spots, brunch places, proper restaurants…I wanted to eat ten meals in one day.

If you fancy a wander, you’re also within easy reach of Oxford Street, The British Museum and plenty of the West End.

That’s the real beauty of staying here.

The hotel gives you comfort and calm, while the city waits just outside the door.

The team running the place clearly know what they’re doing. Staff are friendly, relaxed and genuinely helpful. It’s the kind of service that makes everything run smoothly without making a fuss about it.

It’s also worth mentioning the scale of the place. With over 300 rooms and serious conference facilities, the hotel can host events and meetings for hundreds of people, yet it still manages to feel welcoming rather than overwhelming.

That balance isn’t easy to pull off.

My stay was only one night, which frankly felt like a tease.

By the time I checked out the next morning, well caffeinated and slightly tempted by another pass at the breakfast buffet, I realised something.

I’d arrived expecting a convenient London hotel.

What I found was somewhere far more enjoyable than that. Comfortable, well designed, brilliantly located and quietly full of thoughtful touches that make travelling better.

Given the choice, I’d happily stay longer.

In fact, give me a few more days and I might start looking at long-term rates.
