Loaded's Guide to Amsterdam

48 Hours of Pure Dutch Mischief
Loaded's Guide to Amsterdam

Amsterdam’s got a reputation, and trust us, it’s well-earned. Canals, coffee shops, wild nights, and a lot of charm hidden down cobbled streets and old-school pubs. We’ve put together the ultimate guide to Amsterdam to make sure you don’t waste a second. Whether you’re here for a weekend or just a 48-hour bender, here’s where to eat, drink, and let loose in the Dutch capital.

Where to Eat

1 - The Duchess

Location: Spuistraat, City Centre
Sometimes you want to treat yourself, and The Duchess is the place to do it. Think of it as the classiest joint in town where you can order a truffle pasta in a dining room that looks like it’s straight out of the Roaring Twenties. It’s posh but worth every euro.

2 - Foodhallen

Location: Oud-West
Not sure what you’re in the mood for? Foodhallen has got you covered. This indoor food market has every kind of bite you can think of—sushi, tacos, Dutch classics. Grab a bit of everything, wash it down with a beer, and you’re sorted.

3 - De Kas

Location: Frankendael Park
For the fresh-food fanatics, De Kas is a greenhouse-turned-restaurant where the ingredients come straight from their garden. Seasonal, sustainable, and ridiculously tasty. Ideal if you want a break from the heavier stuff and a bit of fresh air with your meal.

4 - Moeders

Location: Rozengracht, Jordaan
Moeders (that’s “Mothers”) is the place to get classic Dutch comfort food—think sausages, mashed potatoes, and all the gravy. It’s cozy, it’s unpretentious, and it’s the perfect spot to get a taste of how the locals eat.

5 - The Avocado Show

Location: De Pijp
Yeah, it’s all about avocado here. Avocado-topped burgers, avo toast, even avocado smoothies. If you need a healthy-ish brunch before hitting the city, this is the spot to fill up.

Where to Drink

1 - Cafe de Dokter

Location: City Centre
Tiny, moody, and historic—Cafe de Dokter has been around since 1798, and it’s got the dusty charm to prove it. With a whisky and gin selection that’s almost as big as the place itself, this is the ultimate cozy spot to start your night.

2 - Door 74

Location: Near Rembrandtplein (Hidden)
You’ll need to find the door first—it’s Amsterdam’s secret speakeasy, hidden behind an unmarked door near Rembrandtplein. Inside? A dark, stylish den where the bartenders whip up cocktails that’ll knock your socks off. Reservations are a good idea as it fills up fast.

3 - Brouwerij 't IJ

Location: Beside a Windmill
Nothing says “Amsterdam” like a brewery in a windmill. Brouwerij 't IJ brews some of the best craft beers in town. The vibe’s laid-back, the crowd’s friendly, and the beer’s got a kick. Cheers.

4 - Cafe Hoppe

Location: Spui Square
You can’t come to Amsterdam without stopping by a brown cafe, and Hoppe is one of the best. Dark wood, history, and a crowd that’s always up for a chat. Order a pint, settle in, and soak up the atmosphere.

5 - SkyLounge Amsterdam

Location: DoubleTree by Hilton, near Central Station
For rooftop vibes and a skyline view, hit up SkyLounge. It’s got all the glitz and glam you’d expect from a top-floor bar, plus cocktails that go down a little too easy. Perfect for kicking off a big night or winding one down.

    What to Do

    1 - Van Gogh Museum

    Location: Museumplein
Even if you’re not usually one for museums, this place is worth it. Van Gogh’s paintings are world-famous, and seeing them in person is something else. Make sure you check out Sunflowers and The Bedroom, then brag about it later.

    2 - Anne Frank House

    Location: Prinsengracht
A sobering but must-see spot. Walk through the secret annex where Anne Frank and her family hid during the war. It’s moving and powerful, and a reminder of the city’s history. Just make sure to book ahead as it’s always busy.

    3 - Heineken Experience

    Location: Stadhouderskade
A brewery tour like no other. It’s got interactive bits, beer-tasting, and a look into the history of Amsterdam’s most famous lager. By the end, you’ll know your hops from your malt and have a fresh pint in hand.

    4 - The Jordaan District

Location: West of the Canal Ring
Spend some time getting lost in the Jordaan’s narrow streets. It’s full of quirky shops, coffee spots, and old houses. There’s no rush here—just soak up the vibe and do as the locals do.

    5 - Red Light District

    Location: De Wallen
Yep, we’re going there. Amsterdam’s Red Light District is as infamous as it is iconic. Grab a beer, wander around, and take in the scene. It’s all part of the Amsterdam experience.

    Late-Night Fun

    1 - Paradiso

    Location: Leidseplein
This isn’t just a club—it’s an old church turned music venue. Paradiso is where you’ll find big acts, banging DJ sets, and a crowd that knows how to party. Check the lineup and don’t miss out.

    2 - Melkweg

    Location: Near Leidseplein
Another legendary venue, Melkweg is gritty, loud, and always packed. From rock gigs to all-night club events, there’s always something happening. It’s where Amsterdam’s night owls come to play.

    Bonus: The Hangover Cure

When it’s time to recover from all that Dutch mischief, head to Greenwoods for a proper English breakfast. Or if you need something fresh, Pluk Amsterdam does the juices and brunch dishes you need to kick-start your morning.
