Posh Nosh Up Norfff
Yep, it really does exist!
When ya clamming, there’s always a Maccy D’s just around the corner. But how about a bit of posh nosh to celebrate something special? Scran ain’t just all about shovellin’ it down ya throat lads. Some of us like a bit of prestige too.
Anyway, these places are mint, and they’ve all got real Michelin starnot the Maccy D’s McStar thingies.
Pine, Northumberland, by Cal Byerley – 1 star and 1 green star
Sitting in an old cow shed eating what looks like a cow shat cauliflower is well worth the waiting list. You can dive into the full menu for £155 per person, with wine being an optional add-on. The scenery is banging and they even have an on-site kitchen garden. Husband and wife Cal and Sian Byerley offer a lot to live up to. We’re despo to try the Twice Beer Brewed Pork Chump. Get in there.
Located alongside Hadrian's Wall at Vallum Farm https://www.restaurantpine.co.uk/
L'Enclume & Rogan & Co by Simon Rogan – 3 stars
If you’re lucky enough to be one of just six allowed to sit down for lunch or dinner, this place will take you on a behind the scenes dining experience so you can watch and learn whilst the chefs work. The restaurant sits inside a former blacksmiths overlooking a mediaeval priory. They use tweezers a lot to make stuff. Make sure you remove wifey’s bogies before trying what ya learned back at home.
Rogan & Co by Simon Rogan – 1 star
We just saw a dish called ‘thoroughbred Herdwick hogget saddle’ on the menu and want to try it… now. You can find this dish, and others like ‘Yorkshire forced rhubarb’ in a former 17th century cottage next to the River Eea. Intrigued much.
The Cottage in the Wood – 1 star
Described as a ‘foodie bolt hole’ by head chef Jack Bond and his wife Beth, we just love the fact they’ve got normal names. Plus, we love a bit of local and the restaurant is set in a
16th century former pack horse inn, located in the middle of England's only mountain forest.
