FitXR and Meta Quest 3S

A Bloke’s First Step into VR Fitness
FitXR and Meta Quest 3S

Right, I’m not the fittest fella in the room, but at 42, I’ve decided it’s time to sort myself out. No more excuses about being too busy or gym memberships gathering dust. When I heard about FitXR – a virtual reality fitness game promising to make workouts “next level” – I thought, why not give it a bash? So, armed with a Meta Quest 3S headset, I dove into this brave new world of VR gaming. Here’s the lowdown from someone who’s never touched VR before but knows he needs to shift a few pounds.

First Impressions

After unboxing the Quest 3S, I was chuffed by how sleek it looked. Lightweight, easy to set up, and not a faff to adjust – even for someone like me who’s more analog than digital. Downloading the FitXR app was simple, and before I knew it, I was in.

The FitXR interface is slick and user-friendly. You’ve got a choice of classes – Box, Combat, HIIT, Sculpt, Zumba, and something called Slam. The idea is to keep you moving without feeling like you’re slogging through a boring workout. January also brings Seasons, where new challenges and environments drop every month. First up: Arcadia – a futuristic paradise designed to inspire a healthier lifestyle.

Suiting Up and Jumping In

I kicked things off with Box, which had me jabbing, ducking, and weaving like a younger Tyson. The motion tracking on the Quest 3S is unreal – every punch lands perfectly, and there’s a satisfying thwack when you hit a target. The virtual trainers (proper coaches, mind) keep you motivated without being annoying. It’s like having a PT in your living room but without the judgmental stares when you pause for a breather.

Next, I tried HIIT, which FitXR reckons is all about quick bursts of movement. And let me tell you, it’s not a joke. Between squats, lunges, and jumps, I was knackered in under 10 minutes. But the kicker? I wasn’t bored. The combination of upbeat music, dynamic visuals, and encouragement had me pushing harder than I would’ve on a treadmill.

Multiplayer Madness

FitXR has a multiplayer mode where you can compete with mates or randoms. I jumped into an open lobby for a Combat class, which felt like an epic VR sparring match. The leaderboard added a nice competitive edge, and before I knew it, I was dripping with sweat and oddly smug.

Cool Tech Meets Convenient Fitness

One standout feature of FitXR is the Mixed Reality Portal. You can adjust how immersed you want to be – fully in the VR world or with a peek of your actual surroundings. It’s handy when you’re trying not to knock over her favourite vase.

Also, the sessions are designed to be “snackable” – 10 minutes or less. Perfect for blokes like me who can’t always commit to an hour at the gym. You can stack sessions if you’re feeling ambitious or squeeze in a quick one between meetings (no pun intended).

The Verdict

Does FitXR really take workouts to the next level? Absolutely. For someone who’s never tried VR gaming before, I was blown away. The workouts are addictive, the tech is flawless, and it genuinely doesn’t feel like exercise – until you’re panting and wiping sweat off the Quest 3S.

As for the headset, the Meta Quest 3S is a beast. Comfortable, intuitive, and sharp as a tack, it’s worth every penny if you’re looking for a cutting-edge way to game or get fit.

So, if you’re a bloke looking to ditch the dad bod without stepping foot in a gym, give FitXR a go. It’s fitness without the faff – and dare I say, it’s even fun.
