How to join the 1% club

I have always been OBSESSED with what I like to call the 1%’s.

To achieve your best in anything, there is NO substitute for putting in the work. If you’re trying to get richer, fitter, bigger or stronger, the ‘work’ that makes up the 99% must come first.

Things like training hard with progressively more reps or, eating a good amount of mostly whole food and then recovering and sleeping like a baby make up 99% of getting bigger and stronger.

Frankly, if that’s your goal and you’re not doing these things every day, then don’t waste your time buying supplements or Oura rings or any of that shite.

However - if you are absolutely smashing your training, eating like a king and sleeping like a baby, then the 1%’s can make the difference between a contender and a champion.

In my 10-year quest to become the World’s Strongest Man, I hunted high and low for every sliver of advantage. Any minuscule improvement I could add to my training, nutrition or recovery to give me the edge while already at the limits of what a human can do.

From a hyperbaric chamber and cryotherapy pod to a plunge pool and the latest rehabilitation technology, I went down every possible rabbit hole and documented much of it on my YouTube channel (which I highly recommend you go and check out) ‘Eddie Hall, The Beast’.

“But Eddie - I can’t get a hyperbaric chamber for my house.” Yeah I know that, don’t be a fanny, I re-mortgaged my house to buy one and that’s where the 1% comes in… it’s what you’re willing to do to be that 1% better, but there are some simple things you can do nutrition-wise that aren’t going to break the bank:

Up your protein game: Getting enough protein in is a big part of the battle, but have you considered when and how? One of my secrets to putting on meaningful muscle mass is to consume your protein with carbs in a 1:2 ratio immediately post-workout. The benefits of this are two-fold: 1) You replenish vital muscle glycogen stores 2) The protein you consume can be fully utilised for repair and growth.

Trust the Science: Creatine is one of the most researched supplements on the planet with proven results around performance and promising emerging research around things like brain health. It is something that your body becomes saturated with over time, so needs to be consumed daily. There are a few products like this such as Beta Alanine and Betaine, so I combined them into a convenient Daily supplement (BIG D), along with 2 great patented ingredients: PeakATP to work synergistically with the creatine and a good dose of an immunity boosting beta-glucan called Wellmune, less time getting sick = more time training and recovering!

I’m looking forward to exploring many other aspects of performance with you over upcoming issues. Until then, put in the 99% and make me proud!

Big Love,
