Nuts about sausages

When did you last check your balls?
Nuts about sausages

HECK! Food – yes, the guys who make the tasty chicken sausages – has partnered with testicular cancer charity, Cahonas, to launch the CHECK! campaign this November for Men’s Health Month, raising awareness about this all-too-common disease. The campaign follows a survey revealing that nearly a quarter of UK men avoid self-checks due to a lack of knowledge on how to do it properly.

According to the survey of over 1000 men, some of the reasons for avoiding checking themselves included: embarrassment (9%), not wanting to tell their spouse (4%), not wanting to tell their family i.e. parents or children (5%), fear of finding something wrong (12%) or thinking they aren’t old enough to get the disease (5%).

This campaign hopes to encourage more men to get checking, and also lessen the stigma that surrounds talking about balls. I mean, we all have them... don’t we fellas?

HECK! has rebranded its chicken sausage packs to CHECK! and included QR codes linking to information on self-checks, with a portion of sales going to Cahonas. The campaign aims to reduce stigma, encourage self-checks, and promote early detection. Special edition packs will be available in major UK supermarkets throughout November.

Heck’s founder, Jamie Keeble, shared his own story: “I found a small lump, immediately went to my GP and received my diagnosis. Even though a lot of stigma surrounds going to the doctor for such an intimate area, it’s vital to be proactive if you find a lump. I’m now completely recovered and my wife and I recently celebrated the birth of our first child, which is amazing.
