Alison Goldfrapp: Flux ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Flux is ten tracks of neon-drenched synth-pop you could butter your toast with. It’s slick, stylish, and smooth.
Opener, Hey Hi Hello, kicks the door down with a strut worthy of Studio 54, all gleaming synth arpeggios and vocals that sound like they’ve been beamed in from a velvet-lined spaceship. It’s the Goldfrapp we know and love; posh disco with a wink.
Reverberotic is pure filth, in the best way. “Lunar goo / I want to bathe in you”? You saucy mare. If that’s not a contender for Lyric of the Year, I don’t know what is. And Play It (Shine Like a Nova Star) throws plenty enough glitter.
Production-wise, she’s got Richard X and Stefan Storm on the knobs, so everything’s as glossy as a freshly waxed Lamborghini.
Flux is like the perfect cocktail: measured, balanced, and dangerously easy to swallow. But when it hits, it really hits.
