Loaded’s Hit List
By Fred Spanner
Albums you need to crank up this month
Alison Goldfrapp: Flux
Ten tracks of neon-drenched synth-pop you could butter your toast with. It’s slick, stylish, and smooth.
The Royston Club: Songs For The Spine
They’ve matured a bit. There’s still plenty of guitar-driven chaos, but now with added “ooh, didn’t expect that” moments. Nice work, lads! One of the best albums we’ve heard all year.
Richard Hawley: Coles Corner (20th Anniversary Edition)
A timeless record; evocative, heartfelt, and one of Hawley’s finest works. And that’s big praise indeed. Get in!
The K’s: Pretty On The Internet
Their second album is 12 tracks of indie-rock dynamite that somehow manages to feel as raw as a scraped knee and as sharp as a fresh fade.
Jim Bob: Stick
Fans of Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine will be fully aware of Jim’s creative talent for relentless, brilliant songwriting and here’s another album well worth giving the time of day to.
Jim Bob: Automatic
So, yeah, as we said, the great tunes just keep on coming. So much so that he’s released two albums in the same week. And he hasn’t skimped on the quality, either..
Saint Etienne: International
The band’s final album is a glorious celebration, including some fantastic collaborations with friends and heroes.
Black Honey: Soak
The Brighton-based indie rockers have delivered what is potentially their best collection to-date.
