New Zealand Takes Centre Stage at The Great Escape 2026

Brighton’s biggest new music showcase is getting a distinctly Kiwi takeover this spring, as Aotearoa steps into the spotlight as the official focus country at The Great Escape Festival 2026.

On Thursday, 14th May, the New Zealand Music Commission, in partnership with Live Nation New Zealand, will present a curated lineup of ten rising artists, taking over both floors of Patterns (12pm–4pm) for a full-throttle showcase of the country’s diverse and fast-evolving sound.

A Global Legacy, A New Wave

New Zealand’s reputation on the world stage is already well established, with global exports like Lorde, Neil Finn, Ladyhawke, Alien Weaponry, The Naked and Famous and Flight of the Conchords paving the way. But 2026 is all about what comes next.

Alan Holt of the New Zealand Music Commission describes the opportunity as a major moment for the country’s music ecosystem:

“The Great Escape has long been a cornerstone of our international activity… This year, alongside Live Nation New Zealand, we’re proud to introduce a new and sparkling collection of some of the best new music NZ has to offer.”

Mark Kneebone, Managing Director of Live Nation New Zealand, adds:

“This partnership is a massive opportunity to give Kiwi talent a global platform, while bringing that international energy back home.”

Meet the Artists

The 2026 showcase lineup is a genre-spanning snapshot of Aotearoa’s creative pulse:

Luca George

A fast-rising pop voice with millions of streams and major co-signs, blending emotional songwriting with viral appeal.

Vera Ellen

Award-winning alt artist delivering introspective, genre-shifting records with global reach.

Who Shot Scott

A boundary-pushing force fusing hip-hop, punk and electronic energy with deeply personal storytelling.

LEAO

A Pacific-rooted project blending psychedelia, new wave and traditional influences into “niu wave” innovation.

Hemi Hemingway

A charismatic troubadour reworking vintage rock and romanticism into something modern and magnetic.

Jude Kelly

A compelling storyteller merging folk, Americana and pop with cinematic depth.

Office Dog

Indie rock minimalists gaining serious traction across the US and beyond.

Ratbag

A genre-bending alt-pop visionary building an immersive DIY universe.

Ringlets

Post-punk disruptors earning critical acclaim and a growing international fanbase.

A Defining Moment for Aotearoa Music

With previous NZ acts like Aldous Harding and The Beths already making waves globally, this year’s focus slot signals a continued push to elevate Kiwi talent onto the world stage.

Taking over Patterns for one afternoon may seem like a small footprint—but if history is anything to go by, this showcase could be the launchpad for the next wave of global stars.
