The Coldstream Guards are officially Surfing Heroes
Hot on the heels of last week, and what an epic time it's been hanging with some real legends!
Picture this- shredding waves with the Coldstream Guards, the British Army's finest, showing the world that surfing's not just for beach bums—these heroes can throw down in the water too.
In the world of extreme sports, surfing has always been a symbol of freedom and adventure, but it's not just about riding the perfect wave—it's about embodying: DISCIPLINE • STRENGTH & RESILIENCE – qualities shared by some of the most prestigious institutions in the world.
Take the Coldstream Guards, for instance, the oldest regiment in the British Army, known for their: precision, loyalty, and endurance.
Their presence, like a constant force, is a reminder that, much like surfing, dedication to a cause can become a lifelong pursuit. The Coldstream Guards and surfers share a surprising connection in their commitment to the moment—the wave, the mission.
Among today's surfing heroes, many athletes have pushed boundaries, not just in terms of skill but in representation. Surfing is about facing life's challenges head on, very similar to the British Army. The guys absolutely smashed it, even when the waves were huge.
But water safety is so important!!
Water safety in surfing is crucial for both beginners and experienced surfers. Here are some key guidelines to follow:
1. Know the conditions before heading out.
Check the weather, tide and surf reports. Avoid surfing in dangerous weather, high winds, or strong rip currents.
2. Understand rip currents.
Rip currents are fast-moving channels of water flowing away from the shore. If caught in one, stay calm, paddle parallel to the shore, and avoid swimming directly against the current.
3. Know your limits.
Surf within your skill level and be aware of your physical condition. Don’t push yourself too far in challenging conditions.
4. Warm up.
Always warm up and stretch before entering the water to avoid cramps or muscle strains.
5. Use the right equipment.
Ensure you have a surfboard appropriate for your skill level, properly secured leash, and a wetsuit if needed. Make sure your equipment is in good condition.
6. Respect local etiquette.
Learn the rules of surfing, including dropping in, right of way, and how to handle crowded lineups.
7. Stay aware of surroundings.
Keep an eye on other surfers, swimmers, and hazards like rocks, reefs, or piers. Awareness can prevent accidents or collisions.
8. Keep an eye on your energy.
Surfing can be physically demanding, so know when to take breaks and conserve your energy to avoid exhaustion.
9. Surf with a buddy.
It’s always safer to surf with someone else, especially in more remote locations.
10. Learn basic first aid ⛑️
Understanding how to treat common injuries like cuts, sprains, or hypothermia can be lifesaving. As a lifeguard and surfer, your knowledge of the ocean and safety protocols will also be a huge asset to those around you!
I hope figures like myself as Miss England bring a fresh perspective to a sport dominated by adrenaline and saltwater. More than just a title, Miss England represents the fusion of elegance and grit, proving that BEAUTY, PURPOSE and STRENGTH go hand in hand. I hope to inspire others to get in the water. The courage it takes to face down towering waves cannot be underestimated, and the Devon coast was taking no prisoners last week.
It was an experience I will always remember and a huge thank you goes out to Mr England – Manuel Alcantara Turner for inviting me along.
Surfing with the Coldstream Guards was a blend of adventure, camaraderie, and respect for those serving the country.
In true Loaded fashion it was waves, warriors, and world-class vibes last week, and a week I will never forget. #beautywithapurpose #GoFarWithCPR
