Why Fear is Your Friend

It’s men’s mental health week, and with suicide accounting for the largest cause of death in UK males under the age of 50, it’s time to step up, support our men and say ‘No more!”

Expectations on men are high. They’re the breadwinners, the father’s, the pillar of support for their families. Should they crumble, they often fall apart inside. Men find it harder than women to speak out, to seek help, or to admit it’s all getting too much.

Societal pressures and apparently opulent or successful lifestyles depicted on social media by their peers can place huge pressure on men.

Loaded says enough is enough. You’re doing just great, mate! We’ve all been there, even our A-list friends have some personal words to share with you. Take heed of these wise words of wisdom from three ‘strong men’ who’ve been through depression and learned to embrace fear as their friend.

“Since nature gave us fear in order to help us survive, we cannot look upon it as an enemy. Fear is a friend of exceptional people. Fear is like a fire. If you control it, as we do when we heat our houses, it is a friend. When you don’t, it consumes you and everything you do and everything around you. And stop competing against others. You want to get the best out of yourself, not competing with anyone else but you and that’s how you’ll improve as a person, improving yourself on an emotional level.” MIKE TYSON

“It’s fear that prevents people from doing things, but these fears don’t come from you, they come from other people.

“I’ve heard so many negative things in my life. But I started to study creativity

and I started to change what I believe; I challenged every single one of those negative beliefs.

“People were telling me I couldn’t do things and I was like ‘yes I can!’ Even with the America’s Got Talent hosting, people were like, ‘you shouldn’t be doing that’ and I was like, ‘yes I can!’ It never ever stops in your life.” TERRY CREWS

“Fear is a vital emotion; provided it’s harnessed and controlled it can be the best weapon ibn your arsenal. Let fear be your ally and not your enemy.” OLLIE OLLERTON
