Declan Rice and F1 World Champion Lando Norris team up to discuss pressure, elite performance and life outside sport in latest episode of Raising The Bar

LONDON, Friday 8 May: The worlds of football and Formula 1 collide as two of sport’s most exciting names join forces as Formula One driver Lando Norris joins Declan Rice for the second episode of Arsenal’s original series Raising The Bar, available now exclusively on The Arsenal.

The Raising The Bar series sees Declan explore the impact of mentality and work-ethic on reaching elite levels, as he meets some of the very best leaders in their respective fields for open and insightful discussions about the qualities, approach and attitude needed to reach the top of the modern game.

In the latest episode, released today, Declan makes a special visit to the McLaren Technology Centre in Surrey for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour with one of Formula One’s most exciting talents.

During the visit, 2025 FIA Formula One Drivers' World Champion Lando, takes Declan through McLaren’s iconic collection of Formula One cars from different eras, including Lewis Hamilton’s 2008 World Championship-winning car - the centrepiece of one of the most dramatic title victories in the sport’s history, sealed in Brazil.

In the latest episode, Declan and Lando compare the evolution of their respective sports, discussing when they feel most nervous, how they handle pressure on the biggest stages, and the techniques they use to manage nerves and maintain focus. The pair also reflect on life away from competition, including the importance of switching off, their shared love for golf and the role of family in supporting success.

As part of the experience, Declan steps into the world of Formula One, taking on McLaren’s simulator under Lando’s guidance, offering a unique insight into the precision and skill required behind the wheel.

Speaking on what it takes to succeed, Declan Rice said: “F1 and football are very different, but both have changed so much over the years. The game is quicker, faster and more tactical, so if you don’t put yourself in the best position to perform, you haven’t got a chance of keeping up.”

Speaking in the episode, Lando Norris said: I get nervous, but as soon as I put my helmet on I'm on my own. I’ve got my engineer talking to me, but it’s just him in my ear and me - and that’s it. I don’t hear the fans or any outside noise, so it’s easier to concentrate.”

The latest episode drop follows the launch of The Arsenal in March, the new digital home for Gooners everywhere. The platform brings together Arsenal’s most distinctive stories and personalities in one place, alongside breaking news, matchday insights, exclusive content and interviews, as well as retail and ticketing services.
