Calum Best Talks Business

If anyone plays the “good boy, bad boy” game just right, it’s Calum Best. He’s carved out an almost prefect-like public image for himself, without becoming that icky, media washed vanilla ice pop who’s so boring nobody wants to buy into their brand.

With the recent launch of Ixchel restaurant in Chelsea, London, a women’s footie team to chair and a high profile children’s ambassador programme to front, Calum would be forgiven for skipping the weights room. Clearly not…

You post a lot of gym snaps looking pretty impressive, but what's your real schedule like? With so many business ventures, how many times a week do you train?

Honestly, I hit the gym around five times a week, it all depends on my schedule and travel but I prioritise it heavily. Staying consistent with training helps keep my mind and body in sync, which is essential for balancing everything else I’m doing. Some weeks it’s all-out, and other weeks I have to scale back, but that commitment to looking after myself always stays - I see exercise as a form of self-respect and that’s so important - you can’t be the best version of yourself if you’re not looking after yourself first and foremost.

You've spoken out about mental health a lot, and at Loaded, we're huge on men's mental health. But it's not just about speaking up; it's about action. How can we actively take steps to support men in today's society to give them a place where they can openly be just men?

That’s so true, it’s all about creating real spaces where men feel they can talk without judgement. We need to normalise conversations about mental health, so it doesn’t feel like admitting weakness; we need to be embracing the idea that vulnerability is strength, providing resources, and encouraging those daily habits that keep us grounded—whether that’s time to train, having people to talk to, prioritising wellness and focusing on things that lift us up.

Tell us about your Dubai businesses. Can we come?!

Absolutely! Dubai has been incredible for business and networking. I’ve got a few projects out there right that I’m really excited about — my fitness and lifestyle ventures and some other upcoming collaborations in both hospitality and wellness. Dubai’s energy is contagious, and it’s exciting to be a part of something that’s growing so quickly. You’re welcome to come out and see what it’s all about; but you might not want to leave!

Any relationship news?

I’m just focused on the things I’m passionate about right now: work, fitness, and living life to the fullest. For now, I’m just surrounding myself with good people and letting the rest naturally flow.

Let us into your fridge…

For me, it’s all about balance and staying on top of what works for my body. I stick to clean eating about 80% of the time—lots of lean protein, vegetables, and good carbs. But I don’t believe in depriving myself either, so if I want something off-plan, I’ll have it.

How does training help with your mindset, especially if you've been the victim of a negative report or someone is poking their nose into your private business?

Training is my reset button. Whenever life throws challenges my way, the gym is where I clear my head and work through it. It keeps me grounded, focused, and ready to handle whatever comes my way. The way I see it, physical fitness and mental resilience go hand in hand—if I’m strong in the gym, I’m strong enough to handle life’s pressures too.

What are you working on right now?

Ixchel restaurant has been an incredible journey—seeing the huge success and the excitement from our guests has been unreal. It’s been amazing to watch it grow and connect with so many people in such a vibrant space.

I’m also serving as chairman at the women's football team, Dorking Wanderers. Supporting and seeing women’s football thrive has been a true highlight, and there’s a lot more to come for the team.

Plus, as an ambassador for NACOA (National Association for Children of Alcoholics), I’m passionate about raising awareness and providing support to young people affected by a parent’s alcoholism.

On top of that, I’ve got some exciting brand partnerships underway that align perfectly with my values and vision. And without giving too much away, there’s also something big on the horizon—a project that’s going to bring some real conversations to the forefront.
