Iconic 90s Rave Culture is Revived with Boy’s Own Limited-Edition Capsule Collection
Boy’s Own taps into its acid house roots once again with Collection No.2, a line of tees that transports us back to the birth of modern club culture in the UK. Originally launched in 1986, Boy’s Own was created by Terry Farley, Cymon Eckel, Steve Mayes, Steve Hall, and the legendary Andrew Weatherall as a zine documenting London’s emerging house scene. The zine quickly grew beyond pages, shaping the scene itself with unfiltered commentary, in-jokes, and events that bridged terrace culture, countercultural fashion, and music like never before. Collection No.2 revives that irreverent spirit for today’s audience, capturing the essence of the Boy’s Own legacy through a fresh but faithful approach.

“For some, our legacy is music; for others, it’s the parties or an article we wrote about a rival club night,” reflects Cymon Eckel. “It was a mindset. Even if the legacy just reminds people of that singular attitude, I’m happy.” This collection doesn't reinvent Boy’s Own; rather, it offers a modern lens on a movement that already defined its voice.

Each tee channels that era’s underground aesthetic, using rare archival graphics, original zine clippings, and unseen photographs from acid house photographer Dave Swindells. Highlighted pieces include the iconic “East Grinstead Flyer” tee, referencing the infamous 1989 party invite, along with designs inspired by key motifs of the scene—Uppers and Downers, Terrace Rumblings, and Gangsters, Guns & Ponytails. The shirts boast a raw, DIY vibe, celebrating the zine’s gritty feel and bringing it to life for a new generation eager to connect with its history and impact.

For those who feel the call of British club culture, Collection No.2 is more than just apparel. It’s a tribute to Boy’s Own’s legacy as a pulse of independent thought, attitude, and cultural critique. Launching on Thursday, November 7, 2024, the limited-edition collection will be available at END., Garbstore, and Dover Street Market (with an exclusive design). Whether you’re drawn to Boy’s Own for the music, the fashion, or the unapologetic attitude, Collection No.2 offers a wearable piece of history and a new way to join the movement.
