Hate mowing? Same. MOVA's new range of robot lawn mowers might be the best thing to happen to British summers since the disposable barbecue.
There's a very specific kind of dread that hits on a Sunday morning in June. The sun's out, you've got nowhere to be, and then you clock the lawn. It's a jungle. The neighbours are judging. The mower's in the shed under three bodyboards and a broken gazebo.
Smart home brand MOVA reckons it's solved this problem — and honestly, it's hard to argue.
The brand, already known for its robot vacuum cleaners, has turned its attention outdoors with three new robot lawn mowers covering small, medium and larger gardens. Same idea as the little disc that trundles around your living room, except this one handles the grass while you handle the cold one.
No wire faff
The thing that always put blokes off robot mowers was the setup. You used to have to bury a boundary wire around the entire perimeter of your garden — a job that sounded simple and inevitably wasn't. MOVA has ditched all that. You draw your virtual boundaries through an app instead. That's it. Job done before the kettle's boiled.
The range
The entry-level ViAX 300 covers gardens up to 300m², maps the lawn itself, routes around obstacles and can be controlled entirely from your phone — including when you're nowhere near home. Set a schedule, forget about it, come back to a tidy garden.
Step up to the ViAX 500 and you get coverage up to 600m², with better navigation for more complicated layouts — think trees, narrow bits, awkward slopes. It also runs quietly and has safety modes to avoid disturbing pets and wildlife, which will keep the missus happy.
Top of the pile is the LiDAX Ultra 800, built for larger gardens up to 800m². This one uses AI-powered obstacle recognition to identify and avoid hundreds of objects — including the dog. It returns to its charging dock automatically when the battery needs it, then picks up exactly where it left off. Essentially, it's got more nous than most people mowing manually.
Actually decent for the environment too
No petrol, no fumes, and the whole range runs at under 60dB — quieter than a conversation. Your neighbours will probably be more bothered that their lawn looks worse than yours.
