[xhead] Renault 5 E-tech
Auto Trader suggests an original 1991 Renault 5 GT (with an insane 94,000 miles on the clock) is now worth £15k, which means you should get some decent use out of the achingly cool Renault 5 E-tech before recouping your outlay. The French supermini EV goes on sale next year, but you can register your interest in this glorious throwback to town centre cruises and Helter Skelter tape packs, now.
£30,000 (est.) at Renault
Loaded loves: Francophiles rejoice – tricolours are hidden in the headlights and you can spec one with a baguette holder… seriously.
[xhead] Meze Audio Liric 2nd Generation
Romania might not be the first country you think of as the epicentre of high-end audio, but in its favour, Meze Audio has access to a bountiful supply of mature trees from which to carve its exquisite Liric 2nd Generation headphones. Sustainably sourced wood is one thing, but these closed-back planar magnetic wired cans also benefit from being entirely modular and serviceable for what should be a long life of exceptional Meze Audio build and sound quality.
£1,850 at Meze Audio
Loaded loves: In a nod to sticking two fingers up to Putin, each driver is hand-assembled and tested in Ukraine.
[xhead] Hoka Mafate Three2 Golden Yellow and Eggnog
If ‘athleisure hipster’ is the look you’re after this summer, you could do much worse than the Hoka Mafate Three2 in its eye-catching Golden Yellow and Eggnog colourway. A mash-up of Biggie Smalls and Thomas the Tank Engine proportions (NSFW), Hoka has combined the cushy bottom of its Mafate Speed 2 technical terrain running shoe with the signature upper of a Mafate 3. Street-ready with a quick-lace system, we’ll do anything for a gusseted tongue.
£170 at Hoka
Loaded loves: The Vibram® Megagrip outsole that stops you slipping on rogue hummus.
[xhead] Prison Architect 2
A breakaway indie game hit and BAFTA winner, the original Prison Architect succeeded where successive governments have failed, in nailing the construction and management of correctional facilities. Prison Architect 2 (which should have been called CrimCity, or possibly Prison Architect 2: Back Inside) should no doubt take penal correctitude to new levels, in a kind of Football Manager for the criminal fraternity type way.
£34.99 at Paradox Interactive (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Windows)
Loaded loves: Forget FIFA, Prison Architect 2 has a ‘Career Mode’ with a world map of penal institutions to manage.
[xhead] Nanoleaf Outdoor
It’s called ‘entertaining’ these days, but if you’re planning a backyard summer shindig – be it a BBQ or a small-scale rave – you could do a lot worse than illuminate the gathering with Nanoleaf Outdoor String Lights. As well as being programmable with dynamic gradients of ambience, Nanoleaf’s new Orchestrator feature means they’ll analyse music in real-time and synchronise your own bespoke light show. There goes the neighbourhood.
From £89.99 at Nanoleaf
Loaded loves: A spectrum of 16+ million colours… although we’ll probably settle on ‘warm white’.
